 Our story began in 1965 when Jerry Skagen and Don Whatmore formed a partnership and began building flat bottom V-Drives under the name Marlin Boats. In 1969, the partnership dissolved and Jerry used his expertise to form what is known today as Skagen Boats in Auburn, WA. We began as a manufacturer, primarily building custom V-Drive boats up until 1974 at which time our shop emphasis shifted to Jet Drives. In lieu of this shift, Skagen Boats also became a dealership for many California customs including Eliminator, Hallet, Hondo, Kona, Baker, Hawaiian, Lavey Craft as well as Chris Craft and Cougar Boats based out of Canada. As the custom boat business gave way to larger more expensive offerings, the availability of 18 to 21ft Jet Boats became limited, at which point we decided to discontinue offering new boats.
Our parts and service department now concentrates on service and rigging for custom Jet Boats. We offer a variety of services, specializing in pump rebuilding and blueprinting for racing applications and basic ski and riverboat pump rebuilds. We do it all, from billet anodized/powdercoated hardware to pump parts. We service American Turbine, Aggressor, Dominator, Jacuzzi, Panther, Legend and many others. Skagen Boats is a stocking dealer for Bassett Headers but the mainstay of our boat business is still the Berkeley Jet Drive. We have more recently added late model Chevrolet Corvettes to our sales lineup and are currently involved in custom work for those models.
